about

I build right-sized data platforms and full-stack products, mostly in healthcare. Most recently I was the sole engineer on Olio’s analytics platform, which I designed from the start for three audiences: an internal reporting app open to every employee, an MCP server for natural-language self-service, and a customer-facing data API. Underneath are a dbt and Postgres warehouse and a Cube semantic layer, built to replace Tableau in about six months.

I work AI-first, I care about cost and keeping production safe, and I like systems the people who depend on them can actually use. Before software, I spent about seven years as an audio engineer, which is where I learned to troubleshoot live and under pressure.

Away from work, I spend my time on music, chess, managing my homelab, and finding new things to learn about.

Olio

– · Indianapolis, IN

Care-coordination SaaS for health systems, SNFs, and payers

Data Engineer

–

  • Took ownership of Olio’s data infrastructure as sole engineer; proposed and built a platform to replace Tableau, designed from the start to serve internal reporting, an MCP server, and a customer-facing data API.
  • Chose a right-sized stack (Postgres over Snowflake, GitHub Actions as a stopgap orchestrator) that runs for about $200/month, less than the Tableau license it was built to replace.
  • Eliminated 4–5 hours of nightly BI downtime with a persistent warehouse loaded from a short-lived prod backup, keeping all load off production and migrating with no break in reporting.
  • Consolidated dozens of ad-hoc customer reports into 8 standard reports built on 15+ dbt marts.
  • Shipped the MCP server first to unblock business development, then the data API, both on a Cube semantic layer with row-level security over de-identified data; shaped the API with the first customer evaluating it.
  • Opened self-service reporting to every employee, up from 2 Tableau creator seats, with automated report delivery to Google Drive and Slack.

Software Engineer

–

  • Replaced fax- and email-based referrals with an in-app system that handled about 20,000 referrals in a year.
  • Moved the Rails and React/TypeScript app from polling to WebSockets, and built care-team notification routing.
  • Built the summarization workspace and auto-summaries of document uploads, integrating with an internal RAG API.

  • Built 120Water’s public transparency dashboards in React and FastAPI, with interactive county maps of service line materials for each participating state.
  • Extended Olio’s integration platform with a webhook system, deployed as infrastructure as code with AWS CDK.

Data Warehouse Engineer · Healthcare technology management

  • Built an in-house random forest model in Python, run from Snowflake, that matched the accuracy of a $200K/year vendor AI product.
  • Established CI/CD and deployment standards for the Looker and Snowflake teams in Azure DevOps, with automated SQL testing, linting, and static analysis.
  • Mentored an intern and won first place in 2 company hackathons.
